Hello friends!

After 15 minutes trying to figure where to place this topic, Ive decided this is its place. Ive made these sugarskulls with plaster fabric, air-drying clay and acrilics. First Ill show you them, then Ill tell you how I made them ^^. Oh! Please note the Frankie one is a pencil holder, and the cream color one is a business card holder... the white one is the first I made, its just decorative:

If you want to try them, youll need:

-Plaster fabric (its that the name? you know, like when you break an arm for examample...)
-Cutter and scissors
-Air dry clay (optional)
-Balloons
-Acrilic paint and brushes
-A bowl with water for the plaster fabric.

Its very easy:

1- First youll have to inflate a ballon until the desired size. This is going to be the temporary armature.

2-Then you can start covering the ballon with plaster fabric. Use rectangle pieces, not very large, and try not to wrinkle the surface. We dont need a thick cover, with 3 or 4 layers will be enough. Let it dry completly, maybe 1 or 2 hours.

3-Burst the ballon with a needle. Draw a circular section on what its going to be the base, and cut it out. If youre planing to make a pencil holder, a piggy bank, or whatever, now its the moment. For example, i used a cardboard tube for the pencil holder, and some cardboard boxes wich I made with old flyers, for the business card holder one. If youre going to make a piggy bank, youll have to close the base, cardboard works fine.

4-This is an optional step, except if you gave some purpose to the skull: with the air drying clay you can mold the eye sockets, the nose bone, etc. If you added an accesorize, level the joints with clay. Let it dry completly.

5-Last and funniest part! Now you can paint it as you want, be creative and crazy, I think its the best style for this skulls ^^

I hope this is helpfull, anyway if you have any question, just make it, ok? ^^

I want to show you too this cat i painted while i was waiting the skulls to dry:

Thanks for reading, have a perfect day!!

You have great painting skills.  I love the cat the best.  Did you use the same or similar method to make the cat?

Thanks again! Grin

Mamarose, i didnt build the cat, i bought it on a dollar shop, I just painted it... but i think you can try same method, but with some changes.... for example, a balloon wouldnt work as armature, but maybe with plastic bags? thats what i used for the first skull i made, i did a ball with plastic bags,  then I fastened it with a bit of tape, because I thought it would be tough to take the plastic ball off if I put too many tape... so, I think you could model a plastic bag cat, but not with a moveable arm! ^^ Anyway, let me know if you try Wink

downtownmonsters, I think that kind of cardholder fits so much with your work ^^ You make such lovely creatures!
