My husband and I met in art school and we both love to draw cartoons. We always knew when it came time to have children, we were going to have to do something extra special for our nursery.

We were quite excited when we learned we were having a baby (and my silly husband almost immediately started sketching ideas, lol.) As soon as we learned we were having a boy, our pirate nursery began!

My husband drew everything free hand (he enjoyed the "naughty" feeling of drawing on the walls LOL) and I painted all the characters. With the addition of my mom, we all painted the backgrounds.

I wish I could say how long it took us exactly, but we worked on it off and on for so long, its really hard to say (not to mention the eight week break we took when I had the baby!). I do know I spent about an hour a piece painting each character.

This is the first project we've ever done together and we had a blast! The time we spent together alone makes the whole project worth it...well that, and seeing how much our (now eight month old) son loves staring at his walls!

Okay, I'll hush now and on to the pictures:

(To hopefully keep from blowing anyone's computer up, I'm putting most of the detail pics as preg_replace('/(.{19})/', '$1 ', 'thumbnails...definately') have a look though since this is what I worked so hard on!  Grin)

Yes, our son's name is Alex.  Smiley

One of my favorite details...it's mine and my husband's first initials.  Cheesy

And a bonus crib action shot! :

Sorry for all the pictures...there's just a lot of stuff in there!

It's a bit "funkier" than your average nursery, but it's perfect for us.  Cool

I am really interested in doing a personal swap, especially for greener things like reusable lady items, wool dryer balls, or other such things.  I can knit, sew, draw, and put things together in pretty neat ways.  Please PM me if you're interested.

Why is there a TV in a baby's room?

lol, It was a spare TV we had that has nowhere else to go in our little house. We mainly just use it to play music. I figured that was better than it sitting in our already filled closets.

That's amazing! I'm so jealous! My room as a little kid, was covered in ugly clown wallpaper. This is so much better! I also love the bible verse! It looks so good and its a perfect fit for the room!

I don't think that you need to justify having a television in your nursery.  Personally, I like television, and when I would nurse late night, I could catch up on my news - and even now, when I'm folding laundry in there or something, I like the background noise.

Anyway....  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the room - so super fun!

How very cute! This nursery is perfect. My husband wanted a pirate nursery so badly for our son, but it was already decorated in another style that worked for a boy or girl. Smiley I know how much work this takes- wonderful job! And such a gift of love to your son. Smiley

This is the coolest nursery ever! You guys did an amazing job! I thought my daughter's nursery was pretty cool and now, in comparison, it's pretty ordinary. I think I may have to re-do it now! lol.

Super talented, the both of you. You've created a beautiful nursery together and beautiful little boy! Congrats.  Grin

Awesome! Now where is the children's book to go with it. I know he is going to be asking who the pirates are and the names of all the cute animals.
It would make for some terrific bed time stories when he is a little older. You've already laid out the magical land. Now I want to know more!
I have several friends who have written and now sell their children's books. I also went to art school and worked for Disney. This nursery is defiantly
a land full of stories and adventure. You could actually bring the story to beginning in the nursery and start from the walls and poof your transformed
into this land of adventure and fun! Let me know when the books are on Amazon's shelf.

I love it! I'm expecting my first in March and if it's a boy, I've been thinking of a pirate theme. Is that the Pirate's Cove bedding and mobile? I totally have it bookmarked as my choice for boy bedding.

Yes it is! I was so excited when I discovered it...I knew we would have to do a pirate theme if we had a boy and I figured I'd have to find some kind of sea themed bedding...but this was just too perfect!  Smiley
