Life is too short to wear boring clothes.

I taught myself to knit about a month and a half ago. And since I don't have very many of the skills really needed to make nice stuff or the patience for a scarf, I make pouches and stuff. I'm somewhat proud of some of these, but I would like advice (from you more experienced knitters) on how to get better.

A bag for my friend's bday and my first attempt (and fail) at a button hole Sad [I'm gonna put a gift card in it so it seems less pathetic Smiley]

Thanks for reading. Advice is much appreciated.

You've done a lot for a beginner.  Great job and I am very impressed w/ the fact that you did a lined bag too.  I am also a self taught knitter and it took me years to even attempt the buttonhole stitch, so I give you props for all you've tryed and accomplished.
I really like the bamboo handles they sell for handbags...there's my suggestion ( but hey, I'm no expert Smiley)!

Looks great! I think in my first month of knitting I knit like 10 rows of basically nothing... so kudos to you! I'm self taught as well and I found video tutorials on youtube that were really helpful for things I found complicated like increasing and button holes. The best way to learn is to just try it, or have someone show you if possible.
