Don't know what to do with all the waste paper?
«
on:

Here's the idea: get some clear nailpolish, apply a base coat. cut a piece of newspaper (or what else you have at hand) of approximately the size of your nail and put it on top of the base coat when it's still wet. Let dry, trim the excess and apply another clear coat for protection.
et voilá!
hehe

hahaha, didn't expect that much of an echo
thanks a lot!
@Ralph
it does come off okay. after the top coat is gone you might have to soak the paper a bit so the polish underneath is dissolved
But then you can probably pull off the paper in whole, so no nasty scrap scratching

I'm sure comics would be awesome, as long as some images were small enough to capture the effect.

i tried it with newspaper and it just made a really big mess....and turned my toes black. but I think I did something wrong (ie not letting it dry cause i'm an impatient loser) so I'll try again. haha
EDIT: i tried it again and the paper definitely will just not stick to my nails. it peels right off easier than that plasticy peel-off kids' polish. iunno.

I haven't it tried it yet because I want to grow my nails first. I've been so nervous about things lately that i've chewed them all off. Yes, a disgusting habit I know.

oh, I'm sorry for that ><
you have to let the base with the paper dry entirely, or the solvents in the polish will make the ink all glibberish and the paper more likely to come off. that's my explanation for this at least. Also it could be the ink itself... I used newspapers for this, if you used something inkjet printed that could also be a reason. those solve more easily. I hope you'll find the courage for another try
if the paper peels off easily, I'd suggest a clear base coat, completely dry, then the second base coat with the paper. maybe this helps?

well, it goes something like this:
1. apply base coat
2. press and hold piece of newspaper for 1 solid minute
3. remove fingers, newspaper is just sitting on my nail, having soaked up all the nailpolish and not stuck to anything
...so maybe your suggestion of 2 base coats would help. either way, I'm in need of breakfast atm, so I will do it later.

I tried this today! Soo cute by the way. The thumbs came off already but the rest seem stuck on good. I had the best results when I let the paper and base coat dry completely before applying the top coat. I also used text from those flyers you get in your newspaper, and I think that the paper is a little thicker than normal newsprint so next time I am going to try plain newspaper with hopefully better results..
I am assuming that people may be having trouble for 2 reasons: too much basecoat or too thick paper.
I think that tissue paper might be a really cool alternative for this as well if you wanted some fun colour and texture! I am going to try that next. Thanks for the post it was great

That looks awesome! I'm trying it right now. I'm picking out words I like and using those.
Thanks for the lovely idea.
What I just found is that it does take a little while to dry, so you do have to be a bit patient and wait before putting on the top coat. I had to push it down on my nail for a couple of min. to get it to stay and then wait a little bit after that for it to be completely dry.
