Well, I'm not a jewelry maker, normally. But I saw a tutorial video (here) for crocheting wire with beads to make a necklace, and I knew it would be the perfect gift for several people for Christmas. In all, I ended up making seven sets of necklaces and earrings, four of which were crocheted. (The other three were a very simple three-strand design. You can see them on my flickr page if you want.)

For two of the necklaces I used multi-colored glass beads from a grab bag and a 26 gauge (I think) wire. I found the wire a little tough on the hands, but I liked how it held its shape once the loops were pulled through each other. I made bracelets with these sets too.

Then I experimented with a lighter, more thread-like wire (sorry, I don't know technical terms). I found it very slippery to work with, but it made a more delicate necklace. I did one set in shades of green and one in shades of yellow and turquoise. For the green set I crocheted the wire around a set of metal rings in similar fashion to make a flashier pair of earrings.

I'm really love how these are so simple and fast but make such a big impact. Thanks for looking!
