I remember seeing an Urban Threads pattern on Craftster some time ago of a vegetarian dinosaur. I thought of someone I know who's a vegetarian, and decided to design my own pattern in similar style. This person's favorite animal is the giraffe, so there you have it:

The pillow is made of an old bedsheet, and I used back stitch, split stitch, satin stitch, outline stitch, and a sort of long-and-short stitch in the round. The fill took forever! (Sorry for the crappy photos. I just couldn't get a good one of this.)

There's some puckering in some areas, which seems to happen every time I use this bedsheet as foundation fabric. I just can't get good tension with it.

Then, months later, I did a simpler version of the same idea for the original recipient's roommate, who also happens to be a vegetarian. This one was made out of an old T-shirt, and I used a cotton fabric to reverse applique the bulk of the design. Then I just added a few embroidered touches to finish it off.

I think it makes a cute pair!

I love giraffes too!  Your work is so fantastic it makes me want to be a vegetarian!  Oh wait no I love bacon too much!  But I would give it up for a while anyway if I could get the skills you have.

These are amazing! Your stitching is so neat. I have a friend who would love the giraffe. Ironically she is also scared of dinosaurs.
