Hand-knit Christmas presents--mittens and a scarf

Hi everyone!  I've been a knitter for 7 years (I begged my mom to teach me at age 14 so I could make Harry Potter-themed scarves) but have never posted here.  These are just two of my recent favorites!

I made these for my 17 year old sister for Christmas.  She absolutely loved them!  Because of the two colors they are very thick and warm.  She visited over Christmas (I'm from Texas but living in Italy), and on a cold day in Switzerland I was supremely jealous of those mittens!


They were great fun to knit; I'm thinking about making some for myself as well.


I made this scarf for my mother-in-law for Christmas.  I think every year that I didn't knit her something she got more upset (people don't realize how much work, time, and money these things can take!).  I haven't seen her wear it, but she says she likes it.

Beads on the end help with the draping.
The Malabrigo Yarn Lace is so soft and great to work with.  If I were to make this again I would have the "flutter" part at the ends larger.

Wow, these are beautiful!  It might be worth all the frustration, tears and knotted yarn to learn how to knit if I could make something as lovely as these!!

i have had those mittens in my queue for a while!  Yours are beautiful!!!!!  If your MIL doesn't LOVE the scarf you made for her, she should be grounded!  Lovely lovely work!  Keep knitting!
