This is a Christmas gift I made for a friend. I enlisted her husband to secretly send me some photographs of their dog, a Jack Russel Terrrier, Orbit (aka Lady Giggleswick), and then I carved and printed her portrait:

Lady Giggleswick thinks of love

It is a lino block print in dark brown and red on white Japanese kozo paper (9.5" by 12.5" or 24.1 cm by 31.8 cm). It's carved from a single block, I just inked it in two colours.

this is pretty darn incredible!  I had to read the part that you CARVED a stamp for this a couple of times for my brain to wrap around...

It is so lifelike--the details of the eyes and the hair are just wonderful!

I bet your friend was blown away and touched by your personal gift!

I love this!  As a doggie mama I love stuff like this anyways, but the dtail on this is awesome.  I am not sure how durable or reusable lino block carvings are, but I am seeing this printed on t-shirts and fabric for pillows and whatnot for her.

Thanks very much alwaysinmyroom! Though she's a short-hair she's so incredibly furry, that I really wanted to capture the texture. My friend is a pretty tough broad and she got all misty-eyed, so I took that as a great compliment.  Grin

Thanks armchair craftster! Her wistful expression in the photo told me she was thinking of love. Wink

Thanks roccstarr75! Depending on the type of lino you use the blocks should be durable and reusable. I like to print pillows with them, and that's a great idea! (I avoid tee shirts because it's hard to get environmentally-friendly yet durable ink, which can withstand a washing machine).  Grin

Lady Giggleswick is so stinking cute! And you're very talented. I've always wanted to learn to make prints with that kind of detail.

The detailing is incredible - when I first saw that, I thought it was an ink drawing.

I'm not happy, I'm cheerful. There's a difference.
