What's an art journal, you ask? Check it out here: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=art%20journal&w=all   Essentially, they are books of art work and/or written entries/stories/quotes/songs to fully express the artist.

In the spirit of the 1000 Journals project: http://www.1000journals.com/index.php?view=Journals%2FIndex we will be swapping individual journal pages according to our partners themes. By shipping out pages instead of books, any potential problems with flakers will not compromise the entire project- the book will not be lost, only the page(s) to be completed by the flaker. (Let's aim for 0 flakers!) You have the option of making 1 to 3 journal pages for your partner. We will each have one partner.Should this swap go according to plan, there will be more in the future to allow us to fill our journals with each others work.

Some example themes you may consider:

Celestial/astrology/constellations
Childhood memories of your partners
Women
Favorite Poems of your partners
Memorable vacations/travels
Alphabet
etc.


Please avoid very confining themes so that your partner is comfortable and able to do their very best. Giving them options ensures you'll both be happy with the end result.

The pages may end up being a painting, a collage, a written entry over a stamped and embellished background, a reduction print, etc. These aren't strictly writing or art, but a melding of the two. Ultimately it will depend on what your partner is looking for- I will do my best to match people up accordingly.

To clarify, we will only have single partners at this time; this is my first time hosting a "real" swap so I am trying to keep things simple. Once I get the hang of it future swaps may be done in mini groups or "unconditional swaps"

I am tempted, it sounds like a fun challenge. I'm not completely clear on what I would be making. I looked up the links, maybe I'm a little dense today. How would it work out with the themes and all. I need a "art journal page for dummies" explanation...

Essentially (if I understood everything correctly) its like a whole page ATC.  Your partner specifies the size of the page(s) they want.  They can be any size small than an 8.5"x11" sheet of paper.  I left that up to my partner by saying I'd be happy with either an 8.5" x 11" or an 8" x 8".  And then, say for example you were making two pages, you would pick a theme or two from your partners list and decorate the page based on those themes.  Then you send it on to your partner.  When your partner gets it they can hole punch them and put them in a 3-ring binder, or put them in plastic sleeves in a 3-ring binders, if they're feeling very crafty, they can collect pages for a while and bind them into a book.  

The great thing about these pages is that its your interpretation of a theme.  If the theme was Nature - you could write something about a walk you took or what you love about nature and decorate the background/add pictures or you could do a awesome quote with drawings or a collage or even embroider the page...  I have way too many thoughts coming into my own brain by explaning this.  

Ooh - that could make a really awesome coffee table book.  Give it a nice big cover and decorate it...  I may do that with my pages.

That would be so awesome as a coffee table book. My brain is buzzing with ideas and thoughts, I can't wait for partners! I'm actually playing round at the moment with some art journalling, my hands have paint and ink stains on them
