This is my entry for the Design Indaba Superstars Competition (http://www.designindaba.com/superstars/recent-entries).  The idea is to take a photo of yourself in profile and then fill it in with anything artistic in such a way that it tells about yourself.

My profile picture

My finished artwork.  I used patchwork, mola applique and 'quilt stitching'.  It isn't really a quilt because there is no batting in, only three layers of fabric.

Here is the patched layer before it was inserted between the two black layers

Detail of the cutting before I did the topstitcing.  I just folded the edges under and fixed it with hemstitch in black thread.

A close-up of the finished work

The array of coloured thread I used for the stitching.

Went and voted! I saw this, thought briefly "I must make one myself", then looked closer and saw how much work went into it, and decided to just vote for it and tell you how awesome it was instead. Looks like it should be on the wall of someone who spent a few grand to put it there.

I went and voted for you.  That is one of the most amazing pieces of art I've ever seen.
