So apparently I'm in a real shrinkydink phase hehe. I made a peacock bracelet today. (coloured with pencil crayons). The colours in the photo below arent as vibrant as they are in reall life, but whatcha gonna do? (besides learn how to use your camera better! lol) Here it is all finished and put together:

Blurry pic of it on:

The back of the completed piece, which I think actually looks cooler than the front Tongue (you can really see the difference if you go to the full size pic)

I've included a whole bunch of process pics 'cause I know how much I like to see how people get from point a to b in crafting Smiley
Beginning sketch

Colouring...

closeups of the back ..

Just before baking - I always have to remind myself to punch all the holes in beforehand and am continuously kicking myself when I forget! Thankfully I remembered this time!

..and all baked up!

Thanks for looking at alllll those pictures! Hehe .. Wink

THIS IS AWESOME! I am serious. I love the detail in the piece, the thought of breaking it up with jump rings to make it curve without actually curving it is so clever!
This is why I love this site becasue sometimes I just don't think of those sorts of things on my own.
I also really love the way you colored it with shading and everything. Not just flat. Very pretty!

Thanks so much guys. Smiley

I'm thinking of starting an Etsy store and have a question for you all (I hope this isn't against the posting rules re: selling, if it is mods just lemme know and I'll edit):

What would you guys see as a fair price for something like this? I'm wondering for this piece in particular as its quite involved (comparitively to most of the other shrinkydink things i've done) in the making..

Thanks Smiley The original sketch was done on a regular 8 1/2" x 11" (ish) sketchbook. A piece of shrinkydink starts at 8" x 10" and shrinks down to about  3 1/2" x 4 3/8". When you buy shrinkydinks, they come with a little conversion ruler so that you know how big you need to draw your original in order for it to be the proper size once shrunk.

Hope that helps Smiley

gorgeous! you are so talented!

as far as selling it goes, take into consideration how much time and effort it takes to make a piece like this. don't sell yourself short! try searching for similar jewelry on etsy as well, to see how they are priced. Smiley

I second Nesse, I always start out shopping around for similar items on etsy before I set any prices.  I also try to make sure that I absolutely do NOT go below $8 an hour for my work.  Sure, someone else might be selling a similar item for way less, but... etsy shoppers know quality when they see it Smiley

Thanks so much guys!

pugwash: if you mean 'special paper' to draw the sketch on then no, it was just a regular old sketchbook. The actual peacock is made out of shrinky dink. Shrinky dink is a thin plastic-y material that you decorate and then put in the oven and it shrinks down in size while thickening and becoming more durable. Great for jewelry if you don't have a lot of money! (like me! lol)

Very beautiful piece!

As for the price question, Im not sure if this goes against the rules but if it does, please let me know and I will remove it.  Take into consideration the amount of time it took you to make it, decide how much you want to pay yourself per hour of work you did and then add in the cost of materials.  That is something that artists and crafters have a hard time deciding; how much is their time worth.

Hope that helps you decide a price.  Very gorgeous and original piece of wearable art, truly.

I love shrinky dinks!  I got another whole pack (after talking myself down for awhile about buying the mega school sized pack from the SD website.) at Hobby Lobby last month that I haven't even touched.  But I have never thought about breaking up something big like that to make it into jewelry.  Good idea!  Peacocks are great too!
