Here's a little collection of some watercolor stuff I've done over the last 6 months or so...

I painted the bird & mushroom seperately, then cut them out and glued them onto a sheet of scrapbooking paper. I made it before my sweet birdy passed away, while she was sick.

This was for my brother's birthday. He has an adorable green cheek conure whose favorite snack is peanuts. I put the bird on stickyback foam so it would stand out a little from the background.

A mole inside a cupcake! The sprinkles are seed beads...

Finally, this owl. I drew him separately from the watercolor background, then cut & pasted. I like to do that instead of masking because it makes a cleaner line and I don't have to wait for things to dry.

Anyways, I hope you like them Smiley

That was my involuntary first response. Wink Nice job! I love your ink-over-paint style so much; it's like, whimsical but controlled. And that parrot is fabulous.

These are fantastic!!! What brand of paints do you use? I'm forever trying to acheive this look with my paints but it ends up looking really pal and washed out.

I'm so sorry about the passing of your bird! I've lost too many pets over the years and know how hard it is.

I use winsor & newton cotman watercolors in the tubes. To get the colors really vivid, you need to use a lot of pigment and less water and sometimes do a couple of coats. I also use Prang brand semi-moist pans sometimes and they give really vivid colors, the only thing is that when you use them heavily pigmented, they don't dry all the way and can end up kind of shiny/sticky. The cotman ones don't have that semi-moist ingredient in them, so they dry nice and matte. I hope this helps... Thanks for the comments Smiley

Very nice! I love the first one. The one with the peanuts is funny, and the cupcake one is unexpected. The last is very striking. That would have taken a lot of masking fluid!

Thanks for your kind words!!! For the seed beads, I put tiny dots of regular old Elmer's White School glue on the painting, then carefully placed a seed bead on each dot. Let it dry until it's good and dry, then they stick very well, given I don't mess with them much. And for the other paperstuff like the owl, I'll usually use an Elmer's purple gluestick, but if I want it to stand out a bit, I'll use the hot glue gun on the hottest setting. Neither gluestick or hot glue has excess moisture, so I don't have any problems with them going through the paper Smiley The white glue has to be used very sparingly, though, because it has a lot of water in it.
