It's finally time for our first challenge! Thanks everyone who came up with theme ideas and who voted for the theme. Our winner was--colors of the sea. Interpret that as you will, be as wild and creative as you want, but somehow use COLOR! Blues, greens, grays, maybe white like the waves? I can't wait to see what everyone creates!

January 20-February 10

Posting your project February 3-February 10, 9 pm Pacific

Winner Announced February 18

Prize for First Place: A beautiful vintage kimono handbag created by our own sewing mod, alwaysinmyroom!

It is about 14 inches high and 14 inches tall.  The handles can be hand carried or put over the shoulder.

It is made of 7 different pieces of vintage kimono fabric and 1 piece of Burmese silk.  The top part is black cotten velveteen. The kimono fabric is lightly quilted onto batting and then interfaced and lined in black. There is a pocket about 8x6 inches.

There is a magnetic closure in gold to match the gold in the bamboo handles.

Since we had so many awesome entries we are also going to award prizes for second and third place!

Prize for Second and Third Place:

Handmade soap and bath/body goodies Cheesy

The Rules:

-Each participant may enter one project, it may be a set or a single piece.

-It can be any style or made out of any material as long as it fits the theme (sea colors)

-It has to be a current piece. It can not be something that you have already made and posted.

-Post your craft during the period of Feb 3-Feb 10.  No sooner. No later.

-Voting will happen from Feb 11-Feb 17

-On Feb 18 a winner will be announced

At the end, I will set up a poll and the winner will be announced

Good Luck!

I can't wait to see the entries!  I am sure it will be hard to decide which of the talented craftsters will win!

To sweeten the pot, I will be including a surprise, additional prize inside the bag...

Good luck everyone!

I'm curious, where are the rules to this challenge? Is it just for one piece of jewelry, or can it be a set? Does it matter what it's made out of??

OK! You got me! I've been stalling on my jewelry projects long enough!
And, those are all my favorite colors!
I LOVE that bag! But, I know there is some real stiff competition for it!

Good question, yes it can be a set, and it can be made out of anything as long as it fits the challenge theme.

Ooh yummy! Such great colors to work with. I'm in! (I'm going to try really hard to not want that kimono bag so desperately! It is gorgemous! Alwaysinmyroom, that is truly a piece of art. I wish I had an eye for combinations like that.)

Hmmm, now to start digging through my stash and pondering.

I am SO in. Ideas have just been swarming me left and right! My mother's an ocean girl, so there is no way (unless I run out of time or money) that I'm skipping over this. Smiley

Thanks for that info on the sea glass beads!
I collected some sea glass a long time ago, in San Francisco. I was going to wire wrap  it for necklaces. I really don't know what happened to it all. But, I'd have remembered if any had holes pre-drilled.
I do have a shell with a perfectly placed "bird Hole" in it, that I sometimes wear on a chain.
Then there's the ______ _____ that may get used for this challenge! Sorry... I can't tell you! I found it on same beach! About 8 yrs. ago. It is one of my real treasures~!
