So, I found this adorable retro chair at my local thrift store for only $3  Shocked and I knew it needed a new home with me, unfortunately it was this heinous gold fabric so my mom and I decided to undertake the project of re-upholstering it Smiley It's not perfect, but it's pretty darn good for our first upholstery project!

The chair, originally

I'm quite happy with it  Smiley

So very cool. What an improvement! Same here, the thrift stores near me(in Oz) are crappy like that. Nothing awesome like a $3 chair that's for sure! Total bargain. I love the fabric you chose and from what I can see you and your Mum did a fab job re-upholstering.

That's too cute! The after reminds me of a chair I loved at IKEA.

I LOVE that fabric.  Great job.  I need to check out my thrift stores more often - why can't I ever find good stuff like this?

I'm really lucky with the thrift store where I live because it's the only one in my town, so everything goes there, adn our community is comprised like 90% of elderly people, so they always give up awesome vintage stuff  Smiley plus since its run by volunteers for our hospital auxiliary they always price things super cheap! the only problem is that there is usually a line outside waiting for them to open on days they put out new stuff, so you have to fight through the crowd, but mostly it's worth it!

I have the same exact chair, a $3 find at a yard sale, except i've never upholstered anything.  Any tips?

Love the shape of this chair! Your new fabric revived it. Awesome find. Chairs are so fun to recover. The fabric is gorgeous! Wonderful job.

Just dive in! Get some needlenose pliers and a good staple gun (I like one w/a cushioned handle). And go for it. There is a specialty staple remover for upholstery but I've used a skinny flathead screwdriver and needlenose pliers and they work fine. Good luck.

You make it seem so easy, I love your attitude!

I'm going to tear apart my sewing chair and see if I can re-cover it.  This is great inspiration and motivation!

P.S.  If it doesn't work and my mom freaks I'll tell her it was your idea.

I love that fabric...I just picked up an office chair free off craigslist and am planning to do this with it.

My only advice is use the old pieces for a pattern, but add an inch on each side, keep the tack strip off the back, and recruit some extra help, I definitely needed my moms hands Smiley It was a lot simpler than I thought it'd be!
Good Luck!
