Well I would say you have to visit downtown.. you should go to the French Market. The have all sorts of cool dresses, and lots of cool trinkets. While you're there you should go to Cafe' Du Monde and have beignets(it's a few blocks from the French Market). It's a New Orleans tradition! I would say the best way to explore the city is to just roam around downtown. There are all kinds of cool shops and sights to see. On the sides of some of the buildings there are plaques that tell you when it was built and interesting things that happened there, so look for them. One of our most famous restaurants is Commander's Palace and it is actually right around the corner from the house that they filmed The Curious Case of Benjamin Button at. There are so many cool places to see in this city.. just do some googling. Hope I helped & have fun!

There is a really cool artist collective on Lower Decatur Street, somewhere around Ursuline and Decatur. Great place. Also another artist co-op on the 900 block of Royal Street. Check out Magazine Street Uptown, there are a handful of fun, funky stores up there.

If you really want to check out the arts and crafts, head down to Palmer Park at Carrollton and S. Claiborne on Saturdays. Also, the first Saturday of every month there is the Freret Street art market in the Uptown area. Do not keep yourself confined to the French Quarter! There is so much more to New Orleans than that! Smiley Have a great time!

Kurtzie, I put together my own "New Orleans travel guide" awhile back on my blog.

Hopefully that will give you some "off the beaten path" ideas!
