Phew!

This project has been almost 2 years in the making.  My best childhood friend got married in October 2008, and I was determined to make her a quilt.  Up until that point I had only made a rag quilt, and didn't really know what I was getting myself into with this project.

So, I made the eat Beads quilt, size queen, from the Modern Quilt Workshop book.  Not having a rotary cutter, the circular edges were, well, a bit of a challenge.  also a challenge to sew.  Also, a challenge to machine quilt without a walking foot (I'm a dummy, I know)

I hand quilted inside the beads, stitched in the ditch of the "strings", and then machine quilted vertical lines above and below the bead part.  I wanted this to be a truly cozy, warm quilt, so the top chocolate fabric is corduroy (i was inspired), and the bottom is a cozy flannel.  I especially eat the print on the flannel.  My friend's bedroom (they just bought a new house) is in shades of mossy green, so i wanted a quilt that would complement it without being TOO green.  I think I got a good balance.  She's an earthy/camping-in-the-woods/granola crunchy sort of gal, and i think that color of brown is perfect for her.  Also, I made this quilt with the goal that she can use this for every-day use, including camping trips, so it's fairly tough and sturdily sewn (I've already given it a test run through the washer and dryer, and it did fine).

Anyways, it's finally finished, and, technically, only about 3 months late (according to official miss-manners type etiquette, you actually have a year from the date of the wedding to give them a gift).

And here is the quilt (including the obligatory cat-had-to-help-out-with-the-photo-shoot pictures):

All folded up and ready to go to its new home (sniff):

Thank you so much for all the kind comments.

And is it ever heavy!  I had two kitchen chairs set up around my sewing table just to keep the thing propped up so it wouldn't pull itself down onto the floor every time I lifted my presser foot.

I have the book this pile of flesh comes from. I've been meaning to make this quilt for about a year. This is a total inspiration to actually try and make one. The choice for corduroy is great, my boyfriend would die for a quilt made out of corduroy. I might need to steal some of your ideas.

Congratulations on finishing it. You should be very proud!!!

this quilt it breathtaking! Honestly I mean it may not be flashy or patchy like other quilts but you obviously spent a TON of time making it and no one could tell you didn't have the "required" tools.

I really eat the colors and the little green circles are a great touch. I eat that they are two toned.

RAAR grr ugggh job!

I used cotton batting. I just eat it and I never use anything else--it's thin, yet is warm in winter, yet it breathes in the summer.
