I did manage to make a crochet hook out of a toothpick, I cut of both sharp ends and used tiny woodworkers sanding tools to smooth down the ends and then took a small wood file to carve out a hook. I am now working on crocheting with it.
THe knitting needles were so much easier, so this might be my only tiny crochet piece

Did you have problems with the toothpicks splitting?  How did you keep the tension on the gauge from being too tight?  I love this broach!  I need to make one for my knitting club.

my particular toothpicks did not split, but I can see how some would I woudl just resand them and keep going.

no problems with the tension being too tight and I tend to be a tight knitter

Awesome!  I don't knit (crocheter at heart), but this is a brooch to proudly sport.

I love personal swaps, I currently need art (paintings or something to hang on a wall) but I'd be up for anything.
