my first time ever starting ff - and I've got lots to share (for once lol)!!!

mmm corespinning is my friend Grin
"sugar skies" fiber from lapoli and my local fiber mentor at CatskillMountainFibers

alpaca/merino blend

this one lived through some horrible bunny kicking from a slightly insane kitten:

various blends of alpaca & wool that I blended on my hackle. soon to be an earflap hat for my momma's birthday! (if I can find the right pattern in the next two weeks... bah!)

mill ends plied with merino. not a very good picture of the colors (any one else have a hard time photographing mohairy things?) this will be sent to the loving home of A2K when I finish the other skein!

"peakin' through the trees" super yum-tastic merino plied with thread

can't wait to see what everyone else has!

You guys make me so jealous! No room for a wheel, or the know-how! Absolutely beautiful yarns! The "peaking through the trees" one is my favourite although I love them all!

This is my 4th attempt, it's getting better every time I do a batch.  I'm 3/4 of the way thru this colorway, I have unloaded this batch and it's actually sitting wrapped on the ruler you see in the pic currently waiting for time to set the twist.

It's so much more chocolatey brown in real life, but my camera brings out all the colors that were combed into it.  I'm still at park and drafting, but I like having alot of control over the draft atm, ocd anyone lol.  Notice the paper taped to my whorl, lol I got tired of fighting the yarn and the spin at the same time, so I had to create a 'notch' which helped a grip.

Wow nesse!   Your corespuns are amazing, actually all your yarns are!
I have to give corespinning a try
I dont like taking picks of "mohairy things" either...the halo kinda blurs the pic.  That with sparkly fibers too, really hard to photo

cheyenne looking good for your 4th try, when i first started off on the drop spindle I didnt park so much and my 1st couple skeins were way overtwisted

Happy ff!!

Nesse - i love the earthy tones & textures of your yarns.
You have a gorgeous style with your spinning.
I especially like the yarn that will become an earflap hat.
Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Cealy - Hmm I think for the new year, I'm going to have to do something about all these people who want to learn to spin....
If you haven't already, join the facebook craftster fiber-arts group.
I'll work on something to get y'all onto drop spindles

Cheyenneswthrt07 - your yarn looks sumptuous!
The coloring is beautifully peachy. i can imagine your yarn as the cutest mittens

Mittens would be cute.  The total yardage will be just shy of 100 yards, with 4 mini skiens, they will be an added surprise gift for my mom.  She has no idea that I got a drop spindle for Christmas or that I'm spinning yarn, so it's a big surprise lol.

thanks gals! I think I'm blushing from all this yarn flattery Grin corespinning is all I want to do lately. I need to blend up more fiber so I can spin more! I have yet to try corespinning with roving - maybe I'll do that soon.

I'll definitely post a photo of the finished hat!

I can't believe it's fiber friday (well saturday now) I completely forgot what day it was! I thought it was Thursday.

Anyways, I finished this two days ago. Some more Sheep Shed Studio specially dyed superwash. Of all the fiber colors I have this one is my absolute favorite. It's sooo pretty!

Nesse -  I love your corespun yarn. I would love to try that one of these days!

Nesse! Peakin through the trees ...  The green is pretty, but with that pale blue-ish color ... Wah!  Beautiful!  Did you card that yourself?  I wish I knew how to corespin.  I have a few spinning books and i tried it once ... eek.  Totally lost control over it.  I'm doing something wrong.  I have to watch somebody do it.  It's really the only way I can learn these kinds of things.  Maybe today when the baby takes a nap ... Then I can look on youtube for some video tutorials.

**A few hours later .... Thank You Jazz Turtle!!!  see link for her 5 Part youtube  tutorial!!!**

I was definitely treadling too fast ... (Duh. Of course that seems so obvious now that I think about it ...)

thanks anicka! 'peakin through the trees' was actually spun from a roving that I dyed. I was so excited to spin it, I didn't even get a picture of the unspun fiber Cheesy most of my corespun yarns are spun from batts I carded myself, along with batts from other awesome fiber artists.
how'd your corespinning come out?? I'd love to see it!

sweetnightmare: thanks you should totally try it! I feel like I have to most control when I corespin. your yarn is beautiful as always! do you have plans for it?

Nesse!  And everyone ... oh to be a fly on the wall when I tried to corespin after diligently watching the tutorials ... It was a disaster.  I need more practice.  It was really tightly wound around the core, and the core kept twisting also.  Sometimes the two would ply together and it looked like burgundy wool plied with white crochet cotton.  Finally, the core thread snapped and the baby woke up.  End of corspinning for trial #1.  I'm still treadling too fast, so I think I have to use only one treadle (I have a double ...) and see if that slows me down.  I've already got the drive band on the slowest ratio .... so I just have to practice.  I have some icky roving that is of a non-identified breed, rather sticky(greasy), and scratchy as all get out.  It was the first roving I had found here in Prague, and before I knew of etsy, etc.  but I'm glad to have it now so I can practice.  I'll let you know how it turns out.  Baby should be going down for a nap in a few hours ...

Incidentally, i 've been having trouble uploading pics to craftster ...  but my user name on flikr is bohutinska, and I have some of my yarns there.

Wow, that looks awesome!

I'm curious. Is spinning hard? I've recently become obsessed with looking at handspun yarn online, and i really want some.

hardly! like anything, it takes practice, but it's sooo worth it. I absolutely love it. and y'know, my addiction started just by adoring other artists' handspun! fiber fridays drew me in, and I was hooked. you should try it! Wink Wink Grin
