Sooo I have to design a spa or a daycare for my final project in school. I'm getting my degree in Interior design.

But I'm having a hard time coming up with a good theme for a daycare... and the spa seems daunting. What sort of cute themes can you guys think of for a daycare? I've thought of a zoo theme, circus theme, and a fairytale theme... but they all seem so overdone!

And I've never been to a spa! I don't know where to start on that one... any ideas you guys have would be amazing!

thanks so much!!

A day care with a science-y theme would be fun!  Dinosaurs, temperate forests, oceans, weather, tropical forest, prairie dog town (he he he), and outer space.  Those all sound like great for little ones.

I like flower's ideas! Also maybe a candy-land type thing or maybe, I'm assuming you'd be doing different rooms, you could have a different theme for each place like the nap room could be space or the sea, the play room could be something fun like what flower said, the meal room could be like picnic looking. You could also just do really awesome bright colors and designs, like cute little owls and birds in trees and litte touches here and there like that. Like what you'd want your favorite place to look like if you were a kid? I dunno, hope these help! I like trying to think of things like this so if I get any more ideas I'll post them!

I've always thought if I had my own daycare it would be decorated with an "Around the World" theme or something along the lines of a mulit-cultural theme.

I like the spa idea, the photo you posted can be your inspiration... touches of asian themes, but very clean and crisp, white with little pops of the colors in the photo Smiley

I was also going to suggest an around the world theme.  Less by country as perhaps by type of environment.  Lush rain forest, carved canyons, majestic mountaintops, deep beneath the sea...

My idea was along the lines of some of the others...a forest theme. I was thinking that the different shades of green would be soothing, paired with the organic, flowing shapes of living things. And, if you added natural textures to the rooms (wood, stone, etc.), running water and live plants, it would be a way for guests to interact with and have their senses stimulated by their environment.

Best of luck with your project!  Smiley

Oooohhhh... I would love to go get a massage or a facial while feeling like I was in the forest with a brook running nearby.

These all sound like fun themes.
One other idea for a daycare (or it might work for a spa too) would be to design a nature based one, like they have in Germany (and are startign to pop up in North America).  It is nature based with an empasis on the outdoors.  You could design the structure/room that they have as well as the grounds around it (if it fits the project descriptions).  If nothing else it would probably be original.

I also think a nature inspired spa would be great.

Also if you are stuck for inspiration see about visiting some local spas or daycares.  I'm sure they'd be happy to let you look around.
