freaky-ish necklace holder
«
on:

This is what I made for my daughter for Christmas. It was a totally homemade Christmas this year, we both outdid eachother. Her necklaces were crunched in a jewelry box and now they can hang freely. The wood is driftwood I purposely searched for on my last trip to Maine, where she is located.

The creepiness factor is just enough to push this from Neato to Awesomesauce. Reminds me of a weird dream I had one time, where I was in a forest, and growing up through the fallen leaves to the sides of the path I was on were all these doll arms...
They were like creepy flowers...

I heart this! I think it's a little creepy and yet super cool. I saw one online awhile ago but never could figure out how they did it. Do you glue the doll hands to the wood? Fill them with something first? Screw them to the wood from the back of the wood?

I think this is awesome, and anyone that knows me would totally expect it. Except the hoarder I am, I would need a large log, and lots of various hands in different colors (man makes me want to get cracking on that...)

to answer the how-to question - the doll arms are hollow, and I chose a screw that would just fit into them. I screwed thru the back of the wood, which was hellish and must have been oak or somesuch. I predrilled holes, but even then it was a challenge.

Something about the serenity of the driftwood and the cheer of the shiny necklaces negates the possible creepy-factor

Wow I am in love with this! I agree with everyone, the wood you chose lessens the creepy factor which is great. Do you think it would be sturdy enough to hold coats on? I'm saving this and making it later for sure.

Ok I'd probably be a total weirdo and do it with Barbie arms for a kids room
Either way, as has already been determined, the driftwood counteracts the creepy!

i remember in the old charlie & the chocolate factory the hands took the coats and hats!
but it also reminds me of the helping hands in Labyrinth - when she falls down the shafT!
these hands look so gentle and keen to be helpful, very polite jewellery holder!
