Oh my gosh. I need to do this. Right now. I've never counted my yarn. I think I should start now.

I just bought ten skeins of gorgeous eyelash yarn. Shipping was INSANE, but you can't beat two dollars for kickass yarn. Anyway, I'll include that in my count, even though I technically don't HAVE it yet.

Ok, here is my stash..

Admittedly, it is tiny compared to some of yalls, but it's enough to bother me.  I did give away about 5 balls of yarn on freecycle, which helped.

I included the unspun wool that I haven't had the time or energy to do anything with in there

I have 15 balls of yarn, not including the one I'm working with now.. Notice the kidsilk wrapped around a toilet paper tube.  Fancy! (there was a horrible tangling problem and I had to wind it around something)

The problem is I have yarn that i have no idea what to do with. I have fun fur in there for pete's sake.  I hate fun fur.  But it was one dollar.  And Rowan River Tape.  Which I have no idea what I'm going to do with

And three different colors of Kidsilk Haze. I just love the yarn and only want to get more colors in it..

A new yarn store opened up in town. Oh Helpens!

Ha, okay. My organizational skills amounted to rewinding some loose ends and throwing the tangled stuff into plastic bags, then shoving the whole mess back into the baskets.

Total count: 83. Not as much as some, but still too much.

Yeah. I also have about eight ounces of singles to ply, but I'm probably going to sell or use immediately whatever I spin, so that didn't go into my yarn count. I did, however, include a sweater I'm planning on recycling. One of these days. I always buy cheap stuff because it's SO CHEAP, then I never use it.

Please make me stop.

New members - make a yarn inverntory!  I can't even tell you how fun it is to DOUBLESTRIKETHROUGH any skeins I use up or otherwise manage to get rid of.

I'm due for a recount soon -- you will all be SO proud!

Not even one day in and I've had a relapse. In addition to the ten balls from earlier, I now have two skeins of fuzzy white and a skein of Rowan heading my way at supercheap prices thanks to ebay, may it go to internet hell.

Sometimes looking at your own yarn stash triggers more yarn porn - and yarn purchasing.  Inventory!  And stop going to Ebay unless you are SELLING yarn.

My inventory can be found here:

I'm not done yet, it shows only about half of my stash. The list makes my stash seem even bigger than the picture ... *sigh*

Not bad, Annkari!  My list is more than 2 pages long.  *Sheeepish*

My advice is to add a column at the end for "potential project(s)" -- fill it in for every single one of those list items!  That felt so good, and I think it really helped me, rather than browsing through all of it wondering what the heck to make of anything.

I second the linking the project to yarn idea...I was going to do that with flickr. ill have to do it tonight.  Basically flickr let's you put "notes" on your pic that you see when you hover over them.  So put notes on top of all your yarn letting you know what project goes with what.  I also have this written down in my notebook, but it's nice to be able to visualize it.
