My school was having a small prom and I was nominated for Prom Queen. (I didn't win though; no worries)
I wanted to make my own dress because I knew most girls would be buying them from the few dressy shops in Barbados (where I live).
My mom had just bought a Lutterloh Golden Rule Clothing Pattern kit, and using my measurements, we used them to make my dress!
It's technically a top, a skirt and a petticoat that has the can can material on it. It's made of polyester, and the pink and black waist part is actually one of my mom's work scarves! (It was pinned on)
Please excuse my facial expression, but i hope you like my dress! (The top is a little poofy in the pictures, but once it's pulled down, it's smoother)

I was originally going to decorate it with silver sequins and fabric paint, but I'm really happy with the results. I'll be sure to break it out to wear it somewhere again! Thanks a lot to my mom who helped so much with it Smiley

beautiful detailing! i love the lacey arm band.

i had my dress custom made from a donna karen pattern. i wasn't an experienced seamstress then, like i am now.  i'm pretty sure there were 2 girls in my class of 38 (all girl school), that had the same dress. i'm sure they were devastated.

good for you blazing your own trail!! best wishes in making more of your own dresses!

Your dress is gorgeous, and I am sure you will be able to rewear it out to dinner and what-not. I love your lace-y arm detail with the little pink rose.

Your dress looks awesome and you're adorable. New rule: if you make your own prom dress you automatically win Prom Queen.  Smiley
