So, I was wondering how many motifs I already have, so I counted them up...

I have 39 motifs that I've woven all of the ends in on and 14 that I have to weave the ends in on. One of the 14 is the first "test" motif for this round. And 2 of them are squares I just completed as part of the 2010 200 Crochet Blocks CAL.

Once this round is done, I'll start looking at how I may arrange them... I may put the square motifs in the center, with the odd shaped ones around the edges. I already bought the white yarn to do the joining, so I'll be ready to start assembly sooner than I thought!

I think I will call 2010 "The Year of the Joining" (sounds very mystical, doesn't it?) because I'll be joining together:
My 2007 12" CAL blocks (24 blocks- Easy & Experienced)
My 2008 12" CAL blocks (12 blocks)
My 2009 12" CAL blocks (12 blocks)
My 2010 12" CAL blocks (24 blocks from Craftster and Ravelry)
My motif blanket (53 motifs and counting...)
My practice scarf of Granny's Daughters (unknown number)
My blanket of Granny's Daughters (720 GDs)

Holy cow! That's a lot to join... And, of course, the only thing that has a completed set of anything to join is the 2009 12" CAL (except for weaving in the ends). So, it's also a lot to make Wink

Holy cow is right! That's alot of joining!
How many GDs do you have so far? I don't know what ever became of the ones from round 2 that I was in. Now that I think of it, I haven't seen my motifs from that one round either. Or the granny square swap I did. uh oh, I may have lost all of my craftster crochet swap goodies in my move Sad

I can't wait to see all your finished blankets. Especially the GD and motif ones. I keep going back to that gray/red/black and white motif blanket and ooo-ing and ah-ing over it.

Have you decided on a joining color for your GD blanket?

I counted up my GDs last night, and for the blanket I have about 555. I have some others (about 100) that are not going in the blanket, but will be used for the scarf. For joining my GDs, my original plan was to use black. I'm still leaning that way, but white is also a contender...

I hope you can find all of your missing items! They're probably tucked away safely in a tote or box, buried under a pile of yarn Wink

And, I just started a discussion thread about a new round of the Little Odd Ball Swap- check it out!

Wow, 555 - you are well on your way. I'm trying to visualize how many baggy-fuls that must be!

Question: is it "acceptable" to do some granny squares in this swap, or is it only motifs and granny's daughters?  I'm sure I can come up with just motifs if that's the case, but I've seen some nice squares as well.  Thanks!

Granny squares are a type of motif I think! As long as they fit one of the scavenger hunt categories Wink

I was wondering about this myself.  I'm glad people weighed in on it because there are some really pretty squares out there.  I saw a square motif that was knit and I just fell in love with it.  I'm thinking I may have to see if I can wing it and create something similar with crochet.   Wink

I think there might be some confusion over terminology.

I think the original question was about the traditional granny square which is groups of 3 dc worked into the spaces between other groups of 3 dc (with two groups in each corner). At least, that was the question I was answering. Wink

Some folks use the term "granny square" to mean just that pattern, and others use the term "granny square" to mean "any square crocheted in the round" (which people in the first group would probably call a "square motif" instead.)

So, to (hopefully) clear up the confusion, in the last swap, I included some traditional granny squares as described above. Also, any other square pattern is fine, as long as it fits one of the criteria (is "worked in the round" still on the list? If so, it's a good catch-all. Heehee)

I got a granny square in the last round Wink

And, since I'm working on the 2010 200 Crochet Squares CAL, I'll definitely be having squares in my blanket. I don't want them too big, because I don't want them to dominate, but I'll definitely use 'em!
