I got a serger for christmas!

I have some questions regarding using it. It's a Singer model # 14SH654 with differential feed. Yay!

First off, it came with two needles already in it and says to use 2022 unless it's an emergency, in which case I can use standard 2020 needles. I was planning on buying new needles soon from CTS USA but they don't seem to have the 2022 needles. Will it hurt the machine for me to use 2020s on a regular basis? I would SO much rather pay $11 for 100 needles than $5 for 5 needles!

Second, I am assuming I need ballpoint needles for knits just like on my regular sewing machine. Am I correct?

Third, I see people saying they use the serger to make ruffles. Is there a special attachment needed? I tried putting the differential feed up at 2.0 and it ruffled the fabric a little bit, but nowhere near the amount I can get from my ruffler foot on my regular machine.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know about the needle question.....I have a janome.

But I can answer the ruffle question.  No you don't need anyspecial feet, it's just adjusting your dials.  Here is a tut for it, I use it all the time, http://everythingyourmamamade.com/2008/03/04/gathering-with-a-serger-sewing-machines-too/
