One of these days I will get the nerve to wear my latest creation around town. It's just so. . . so much. Based on catladysarah's petticoat and april_cocaine's circle skirts, I have made this:

It is rather short (16" or so) and incredibly fluffy, so you can see why it is going to be an act of courage to wear it outside my dorm room!  Cheesy

I like it. very flirty! I don't find it very short, but then again, according to most people at my school, it's not short unless you can see your bum...hehe. pretty. I bet it's fun to twirl in!

An 'excuse' to show it off in public may exist:  It reminds me of the skirts that clog dancers, and Irish dancers, etc, wear.....

haha that is real cute... don't take offense when i say it reminds me of squaredancing.  or a kickawalk but that's a joke only for people who know UCB.

anyway, it's adorable.  i wish i could find excuses to wear half the crazy stuff i make...

Hot.  If I were a girl, I would be so wearing incredibly short, incredibly full skirts right now, thusly:

Alexander McQueen Spring '05

Go wear it and make all the boys drool.  It looks too nice to be kept a secret.

i love it!  i would say on your first outing with it on, wear a matching color shirt.  (not sure if you were going to wear the read with it, but red always draws people's attention)  is that toile material?  love the toile!

who cares what people think, it's your creation, show it off!  who knows you may start a new trend!  Wink

I. Love. Toile.  This is a great skirt!!!  I would totally wear that around town...but then I've been known to wear newspaper hats and Dorothy of Oz dresses.  Cheesy

Where on Craftster are the tutes that you referenced?  I want to make your petticoat!  (Even though we can't see the actual petti  in the photo, the beautiful pouf-ing effect is clearly evident.)

VERY cute! I would wear it with white ruffly panties underneath, so if anyone does catch a glimpse, it's something fun! Why not play up the Dreseden doll look, huh? Great for parties or a night out dancing! I used to wear a lot of short flouncy skirts, and sometimes I'd wear men's boxer shorts underneath on days that I wanted to be more campy than sexy. You need to feel comfortable if you're going to work it.

I think that it would totally work with a little blue cardigan and some ballet flats.  Rock the gurliness.

As long as an interesting outfit is well put together, it always will work.

Dorms suck ass...I can't have my sewing machine here! You're lucky...

VERY cute! (You are adorable too!) Wear it without the petticoat if you're uncomfortable with its fullness. You could lengthen it a bit with some eyelet lace or tulle along the bottom. I agree with wearing lacy bloomers or little frilly short shorts like justinexcore makes if you still feel uncomforable. I gaurantee you no one will mind! You're too cute!

AND...just have to say...College is the time to say fuckit I'lll wear what I wanna wear. If you feel good in it wear it out. Otherwise sell it to ME!

Hey, hey, hey. Thanks for the kind words, errrybody! Sorry I haven't posted in a while. That is the most adorable skirt ever! By all means wear it, but if you feel uncomfortable, you could wear a sort of shortened version of the Victorian pantaloons. It would look really cute and you would be like a little doll  Grin

In my opinion it's really classy and feminine & you should show off that gorgeous creation!  If I was going out to dinner, I would dress it up with a nice white top, simple jewelry and kitten heel shoes.  Around campus I would probably wear a casual white tank top, big chunky rhinestone earrings and cheap white flip-flops.

When I wear semi-extremely crazy garments I downplay the piece with accessories.  For instance sometimes when I wear my geta shoes (Japanese clogs) I'll wear an ankle length skirt (usually a denim one) with a top that has somewhat massive bell sleeves, so it'll look like I'm wearing a kimono, but at the same time I don't look silly.  (Keep in mind I'm 26 and married with children.)   I have worn army camo, fishnet stockings, tube tops, 5in heels, camisoles as tops, ect. at the office and never got in trouble because I always balance the one crazy piece with conservative pieces.  Wink

I do not think that is too short at all!  I mean seriously, it's almost to your knees.  That's long by comparison to a lot of skirts out there.  Wear it!

On a side note, your dorm looks a lot like mine did.  Same walls, beds and chair.  The only noticable different was the carpet and desk!

Perhaps too short if you're bending over or in a wind storm but come on! have you seen how short the skirts are these days! That is a fantastic skirt it begs to be seen! And it will have the boys drooling in a less blatant way, it'll be because you're cute not half nekid!

I think it's a really cute skirt. I like the lace detailing at the bottom (the red shirt looks nice too). Perhaps you could "tone it down" a smidgen by wearing it with a plain t, some leggings and ballet flats or boots. If you're into more structured pieces like a fitted jacket or blazer, that would probably tone it down a little bit too.

Stop being so damned positive. Staring at the sun only blinds some one. By only looking at the positive, you miss an entire beautiful world of shadows and colors. Don't be overly negative, be realistic. The world is so much more complex and beautiful that way.
