We're well past Christmas now, and the present has been delivered, so now I can share it!

I didn't have a whole lot of money this year for Christmas, but this Christmas I have a fiance!  Darned if I wasn't going to do something special, so I decided to make something myself, out of something that's just about as cheap as it gets... paper!! I spent my lunchbreak over a week cutting this out by hand, with a fairly crappy xacto knife.

It's a little bit hard to read, but at the top it says "N&J" (Niamh and Jonathan) surrounded by little hearts, and then it says "A little Monster Loves you So". I hung it in a floating glass frame I got for sale at Michaels.

It's a little joke between us that I'm his little monster. It's more endearing than it sounds. This Halloween we dressed up as Sam and Max, two characters from an old school video game, and we got him these awesome bear paw slippers. They are now my favorite slippers in the whole wide world, and I spend a lot of time shuffling around in them. On my feet they're massive, so I call them my monster feet Smiley The little monster in the cut out is wearing the slippers.

Here's a shot of it with fun shadows on his office wall...

Needless to say, he loved it. We had a very happy first Christmas together!

What a wonderful idea and your paper cutting skills are outstanding!

It has a retro poster feel with the different fonts and the attached lettering. Your little monster is totally adorable too.

That is ADORABLE...and YEAAAH SAM AND MAX SHOUTOUT!!! Also Day of the Tentacle!  Sam and Max got re-invented as (more) sordid characters in later series, but the original is still the best! Good on ya!

Hi! I love this and I was wondering how you did it. How did you create the design? Paint? Photoshop? What? And did you use a preset font and pictures from the internet or did you hand draw it all?

I think this is so cool and I want to make some of these for Christmas. Smiley

I sketched the little monster and most of the fonts/layouts myself, then scanned it and took it into Illustrator where I cleaned it up and sorted out all the shapes. Then I mirrored it, print it out, and when I cut it, I displayed the back, so you can't see the print outlines when it's framed. Ta da!

That's a great project idea Urban for any special occasion.  The best part is it makes a great gift without having to spend 100 hours on the project.  Half your work is done when you come up with a great message for the receiver like you did!
