Pierre, pocket-sized knitgurumi (?) travelling companion!
«
on:
January 06, 2010 03:56:47 PM »
I saw a travelling companion on craftster and fell in love with the idea, kinda Amelie-gnomish! Aiming for a small woollen creature and unable to crochet, I scoured the internets for "knit-gurumi" patterns but was not satisfied. So with my very limited knitting and designing skills, little Pierre was born the day before a month's rail trip around Europe last summer, thus named for his resemblance to a rock (and we happened to be in France at the time...)
Here he is, bright eyed and bushy tailed, on his first ever train journey:
Here at sunset in Brussels:
Being political in front of the Hungarian parliament (see his serious expression?):
ok just little thumbnail pictures now, but here he is trekking up Mount Olympus, in Rome, with his friend the Venetian gondolier, being quiet in a church, under the Eiffel Tower and finally with his little Hungarian cousin Joszef when they met in Paris.
He visited many other places but I think that is more than enough photos!
Comments would make his day!

What a cutie! Knit amigurumi patterns are out there, but tougher to find. Honestly, I'm glad you didn't find anything because I love what you came up with on your own. He is adorable! Have fun with your little world traveller!

I love him! You've inspired me to make one!
I just have one question- what crafty magic did you use to make those adorable horns?

Pierre is too adorable and your photographs are just lovely. He reminds me a bit of the monsters from Where The Wild Things Are. I also love that he has another friend with him! I so jealous of amigurumi and knit-gurumi crafters! (:

Pierre is completely adorable, with such a cute expression. I make crochet amigurumi, but I do like the texture of knitting - maybe I should learn. Have you seen Mochimochi Land's knitted gurumi?

I just have one question- what crafty magic did you use to make those adorable horns?
fimo (poly clay), I made horns attached to discs which are under the knitted bit to stop the horns from falling out, if that makes any sense. I guess they could be made from beads or carved wood or something though too...
And please! if you do make one post a photo in this thread so I can see it! I'd be thrilled to see yours
and AngryAngel, I love your amigurumi, hehe perhaps Pierre has some common ancestry with your rock spirit! I can't believe I didn't find the Mochimochi creatures, they're adorable. Perhaps crochet lends itself better to the construction of small creatures, I think I will have to learn...

Aww, thanks! The difference between knitting and crochet when it comes to amigurumi is interesting. I think crochet makes a firmer fabric which doesn't stretch too much so it can be quite well stuffed. And crocheting in the round, and making quite small shapes seems fairly easy to me, whereas it seems to be a bit harder to knit in the round (but I don't knit, so I could be wrong). I think it's really cool to see cute creatures that are knit as well as crochet, vive la difference!
