OK. So here's my first suggestion.  Let me know how you guys like this one:

Make something from things you bought for under $5 from a Dollar Store

Maybe it's just me but I LOVE poking around dollar stores for wierd things you can make things out of!

Dollar stores are awesome.  Especially in the Dollar Tree around here, so can even get craft supplies, even jewelry supplies.   Cheesy

I love dollar stores as well (my favorite is actually in the same shopping center as my favorite thrift store)!

So, I am totally up for the challenge!

Thanks for the good excuse to go to the dollar store! Grin

If I am caught up with all my swaps such that I would not be in over my head again when you start this, I would LOVE to be in on it.  If not, then I would love to see what everyone else comes up with  Wink

Dollar Tree is the best!!!  Are we looking at a specific timeline?  I'm crazy busy with end of the semester grading, but in two weeks I am absolutely free.

Yes indeed, dollar stores (like my lovely Dollarama), are quite fantastic. And so is this challenge... I may or may not actually participate (although it does seem like lovely motivation), but I will definitely enjoy keeping track of it!

I love this challenge concept!  I am sure it will take off.  Even when not participating, it will be fun to review what folks come up with.  Dollar stores aways intrigue me--I'm all for this idea.

I think this is a brilliant idea! I make things out of stuff I buy from the thrift store (which could be a whole different craft challange idea). We have a ton of dollar stores here. Cheesy

This is such a great idea.  But I was wondering the same thing.  Do we consider glues, paints, sequins, bead, thread and other sundries we may already have in our crafty stash to be outside the price limit, or must all the supplies (perhaps minus associated tools) come from the dollar store?  I personally think it would be doable either way, since they often have sewing kits and paint sets, etc.

I'm thinking that the "focal point" of the thing you make must be out of materials that cost under $5 from a dollar store.  Then you can use traditional craft supplies that you need like thread and needle, glue, tape, whatever.

Some people have mentioned that some dollar stores actually sell craft supplies.  But I think that what you spend your $5 on at the dollar store shouldn't be craft supplies per se -- 'cause that's not as much fun.  What you spend your $5 on should be some wacky thing(s) you never woulda thought someone could make something out of.

Sound good?  If people like this, I'll start the offical contest soon!  And I'll write up the rules of this Challenge as clearly as I can.

Has anybody checked out the dollar deals at Target? They have them all at the front of the store, right near the entrance as soon as you come in. Right now, they have a whole bunch of beading/jewelry making supplies, jewelry instruction books... and other cool stuff too...
