I got a sewing machine for Christmas, and I decided to get cracking. After I purchased fabric, thread, and had my fair share of cursing, pricked fingers, hitting the machine and reading through the machine's instructions countless times, i came out with this...

A tote bag! from these instructions. I changed mine just a wee bit. I didn't make it as big, the straps are made from both fabrics, and I added a pocket, button and interfacing to make it sturdier to hold my school books Smiley

One side

Small pocket

Other side

I bought the little mold to make fabric buttons and used one to close the bag.

I am happy with how it turned out. I had originally planned on the brown (which is now lining) to be the outer fabric but changed my mind. The picture doesn't really do colors justice because they're really cute colors that go well with the brown! Smiley

C&C welcome!

Congratulations on your new sewing machine, and your first tote! Your first tote turned out so much better than my first attempt. Great job! Cute fabrics, too!

OH my goodness girl!!  You did a GREAT job on your tote!  You are on your way.  I suck at lining things and yours looks absolutely perfect!  I'm so glad you got your machine because you are really good at sewing and the fabrics you chose are so cute together!  So proud to have such a crafty friend!  (yep, I'm cheesy but I'm so excited for you!)

Aww, tia! You made me giggle. I knew you'd be proud of me though. It's good to hear Smiley I actually did mess up on a small part of the lining so I went back and stitched a second line across the top, but it's still cute. I've been wearing it around ever since I finished it.
