Fueled by the scent of rubber shavings....

-  you start to like the smell of vinyl being carved
-  you find stamp shreds everywhere!
-  you rescue used, "unloved" erasers, and turn them into mini art pieces
-  you have way too many erasers in your stash
-  you like your cuticle remover!
-  you don't know how to use photoshop, except to make stampable images

Edit:  Quick question:  Anyone have a good inkpad brand to recommend?  I've been using office type inkpads, and the not so intense color is driving me up the wall!

When you almost cry in Michaels last night when you see a Clearance sticker on the Speedy-Cut large blocks because they might not be carrying it anymore.

Ink Pads: I really like the Marvy ink pads and finally ordered a set of refills so I'm set for a very long time.

Thanks!  I'd keep an eye out for those!

-  When you always have ink on your hands
-  when your desk/work surface is covered in test stamps!

Yup, that was me too.  I haven't been back there, so I don't know if they've restocked.  I did ask when I was paying if the clearance meant that they were no longer going to carry it and the clerk didn't know.

Uurggg.. I used to have to drive to Albany or stock up on trips to DC, neither of which happen much anymore.  7 minutes away from the house was so much easier.

I'm not exactly a veteran carver, so maybe I don't belong here, but when the clerk rung up my Moo Carve, she thought it was modeling clay and gave me 30% off cause Sculpey was on sale...

Too funny!  I've had clerks get very confused wondering what the stuff is.

But I've never heard of Moo Carve.  What's it like?

I haven't used it yet. It's very thick, white, looks a lot like Mastercarve (even packaged with a dark blue cardboard band around it), and was in its place. Maybe that's what they're replacing it with.
I think because it's so thick, I'm going to carve both sides, making one side a background and the other the lines for a two-color image.
You'll have to clean it between stampings, though...

oops - it's gray. And it was Mastercarve that I found on clearance, not Speedycut (I got one of each - like I said, I'm kinda new and want to find what I like)

Hobby Lobby is an hour away and it's been a while since I've been there.  For that price, I'd have grabbed them up.

Great price, lucky you!  But I really had to say that I love your HalfLife background! I saw that and started laughing, thats awesome! At first I read the title and thought you were making a HL2 stamp.

The one I got was the last one there. I even went to the main clearance area to see if there were more.
The HL2 is my mousepad, it's actually my husband's. I'd make him a stamp (probably Dog) but I doubt he'd ever use it.

Love it.  I've been carving mostly on those big "for big mistakes" erasers.  But, they aren't satisfying to do - although they take acetone transfers a bit better than anything else I've tried.

I've had my first stamp carving dream. I think I had a good idea for a new stamp but I don't remember what it was.

Tsukino - I believe is the maker name- Stazon! Amazing ink for everything.
7 Gypsies- walnut ink- great brown tone
Marvy - pretty good ink also
Speedball- printing ink for linoleum-comes in water and oils bases

Thanks - I may try the Walnut ink - I need something to age the stamps!  (I've also been stamping with cheap acrylic paint - it fills in the cracks/grooves too easily.)

I've also had a stamp carving dream.  I was shopping for speedy-carve (thank you, small town, and not having anything else), and came across a giant block of it.  I really need to go online and check out the different sizes/suppliers.
