Other Portland Meetups

Hey, I thought it might be nice to have another thread where we could share events we hear about, crafty meetups or bazaars or shows or the like.


I got this in my mail box:

Portland area sewists (seamstresses and seamsters? not sewers, that sounds better than it looks written, anyway, people who sew) should all be aware of the meetup.com group, The PDX Sewing Circle, http://www.meetup.com/PDXSewingCircle/.  I have had a great time at every meetup I've gone to with these fine folks.  The organizer, Davina, is fantastic, as is everyone I've met through the group.  The locations are fun, and the meetups are nice and regular.  Locations vary from east to west sides of the river, and sometimes there's a theme, or just free crafting.  of course, you're always welcome to bring whatever project you're stitching up and share in the conversation.

The next meetup http://www.meetup.com/PDXSewingCircle/calendar/11935114/ will be at PDX Seamsters, a fantastic sewing studio that you should be sure to check out.  A nice big studio space with plenty of tables, outlets, and irons all available to use.  Sewing machines are available to borrow for $5 an hour or bring your own (there are a couple of sergers there, too!). That'll be next saturday, at 2:00pm.  There is a $10 (sliding scale) donation suggested, since there are costs for renting the space, but it's a great deal, and so worth it.

I'll be there for sure, so anyone interested in sewing (of any skill level!) should be sure to come, too.  There's sure to be lively conversations, advice and opinions if you want it, and new project ideas.  I'd love to see more craftster people there! Check out their page on meetup, have look at the calendar and what people are saying.  I'm just a new member to the group, but feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

kinda last minute, but for any craftsters on the west side of the river interested in a meetup group, the portland sewing circle is meeting at the Hillsdale library Tuesday, Jan 19th for a burda/ottobre/japanese craft book pattern tracing night (patterns provided!) at 6pm.  no donation or costs required (although you're always welcome to if you feel moved to do so.)

The next sewing circle meetup planned is on Jan 30th, it's a fabric and supplies sell, trade, destash and restash sale open to everyone.  The location for this still hasn't been determined yet, but it looks like we're leaning towards the east side

Hey Craftsters!... The West Side Sip-N-Stitch has now moved!
They are no longer meeting at Haggen's.  They are now meeting at the Whole Foods Market on Cornell Road on about 192nd.  Same Day and time (Wednesdays at 7pm - or earlier)

It's still the same very lively group of always at least a dozen women... Mostly Knitters.
However usually there are several spinning wheels out, and a couple of fiber dyers who bring fiber (Stitch Jones, anyone?)

I am pretty much always the one who is never knitting... aka the Never Knitting Crafter... *grin*, and I would sure like to see some other non-knitters showing up.

My current project is a hooked rug, and I just finished a computer bag...

Hi,
I'm inviting you over to my house this Sunday June 6th to make stuff in my living room. My house is right off Alberta on NE 25th.
The first project will be decoupage. I have a ton of national geographics and mod podge, but feel free to bring collage materials of your own. The other projects I have in mind include hand sewing, cross stitch, jewelry making, pickling, baking bread, wood carving, clay, book making, knitting and crochet. Depending on the project you may need to bring materials or a small donation in the future, but the costs will be kept very, very low.

Yay! I'm excited for this. I am new to Portland (SE) and have been looking for a crafty place to make new friends. I was even thinking of doing my own meetup. I'll have to keep myself posted. Hope to see some of you there!
