I'm thinking of using some on a bowling ball for garden art.

Where is a good place to get some cool, unique buttons? I know the ususal craft store but anywhere else?
I am planning on sprucing up my messenger bag and a few notebooks of mine. (some ideas you can do too!)

sorry if this is a bad place to put but I figured this is about buttons!

Wal-Mart has these crazy fun great big buttons. They come on cards of three and they have funky matching colors and designs. I just love them...I had to stop myself from buying them all!!! They are really big though...I don't know what I'd use them for, but they sound like they'd be perfect for your project, ladybugz!

I recently made a button collage and then squirted massive amounts of pretty paint all over them. It turned out pretty cool. I have a picture on my camera that is in my purse but the cord is at home. Darn, i would love for you to see it! Smiley

I am all about the button and shoe love.
I have a tin of white buttons that I intend to use to decorate a pair of shoes.

And to use on those cheap painted frames from michaels. If you buy the cheap frame and buttons by the bag at a garage sale, then you can make an insane profit. True story.

Estate and tag sales usually have some of the best vintage ones. I also shop at antique malls. I've bought some on Etsy as well. I noticed that Michael's has bags of both vintage ones and modern ones. Catch them on sale and you can get them fairly cheap. I tried with Ebay, but found that the winning bids were sometimes way higher than the buttons were worth...then toss in the outrageous shipping charges...but sometimes, you can get a good bargain there. Depends on how obsessed with buttons you are, but check everywhere. Even dresses and such at garage sales sometimes have cool ones. Just snip 'em off and use the dress material for something else. Some of the best ones I have, I got from a swap here, then from a friend I made during a swap, who sends me buttons she finds at estate sales all the time.

I'm all for button love, can you tell? LOL

I found a great project that I am going to do for Christmas gifts... "embroidered" notecards/greeting cards using the buttons as artwork.  ie: Snowmen (3 white buttons, face sewed on with colored thread), Balloons (colored buttons with strings sewn on), Baby Rattle, Christmas Tree Ornaments... The list goes on and on.  You could do all sorts of things.  I am going to glue the buttons and sew on the detail with thread to colorful paper and glue that to white cardstock (that way the messy backside won't show) and finish with a ribbon accent.  I am going to give away sets of blank notecards as gifts.

I don't think i've seen this one here yet - button magnets. They were featured in a magazine and all they did was glue a smaller button inside of a bigger one then a magnet onto the back. They looked great though.
