I recently learnt how to do cable crochet - it's really opened my eyes about other things that can be done with crochet.

I thought the technique would be perfect for creating some lord of the rings themed gloves. So these are the first pair I created, based on Imladris / Rivendell.

The pattern is designed to be reminiscent of the architecture of Elronds house and gardens (while being simple enough to be written up as a pattern), with a twisting cable of front-post-treble-crochet (FPtc) in between two vertical lines of front-post-double-crochet (FPdc), worked on a backing of half-double-crochet (hdc).

I intend to create another few designs based on Rohan, Lorien and Gondor Smiley

I like your idea of Lord of the Rings reminiscent crochet! Those are pretty gloves, and I'm looking forward to your Rohan themed crochet!  Grin

thanks Smiley
I reckon i'll make the Rohan ones more complicated, with something horse-ish if possible

i only know how to do 'fake' cables with crochet....

thanks Smiley i'm wondering what the difference between 'fake' and real cables is? is it more just like a raised stitch?
