Okay so I've decided to try out regular embroidery.Here are my results so far. For the heart I was trying to do the french not but I messed up so played around and did corset style. XD

Nice effort, V.A.... For the french knots, try wrapping the thread 3 times around the end of needle, and going back down... instead of the same hole you came up, pick over just a thread, It will keep the knot from pulling thru. Give it another try! They're really easy.

KLK said it straight on. That is exactly how you do a French knot. It drove me crazy for years until I watched a video on it.

I'll have to try that. I had looked at how to do it earlier in the day but apparently didn't remember it right because I didn't wrap it around the needle at all XD I think I was doing the chain stitch and then going back over it and it would make a knot. ha. at least it doesn't look too bad, but I'd like to do it the right way!

Alright I need some opinions. I did this Totoro last night (with proper french knots too!) and can't decide if I should fill him in or not. If I do, what would be a good filler stitch that isn't too hard?

I think you should do some long and short stitches, go around the edges towards the center. Keep it heavier on the bottom, and lighten it up as you go. leave themain part open. Think in terms of pencil shading , to give the edges contour.
It should be kept fairly loose. Don't pack the stitches too tight, or make them too even.

I agree with KLKing. My first thought was a sort of feathering stitch, kind of like shading. Hers makes more sense.

Some Yule cards for friends and relatives. First I sew the red corduroy circle on the checkered cotton rectangle and then I sew it on the card base. Quick and easy and got rid of some small fabric scraps. And I think they were quite nice, at least different from regular Yule/Christmas cards with santa/snowman/angels/elves/glitter etc.



I also made a wallet for my mum with same fabrics and I have unfinished wallets for my sisters, I'll post pics of them when they're all finished.

I am a novice embroiderer so I will be learning along with you vampedangel14!

I want to try the coloring technique...I can do French knots and chain and I am improving my stem stitch--I have yet to try the fill in stitches...oh, and I can do blanket stitch...
