I'm making a baby blanket for my brother-in-law and his wife who are due in March.  I have 2 cats and inevitably everything I craft gets cat hair on it.  I'm going to hand wash the blanket before I give it to them which is where my question comes up.

I don't have any kids, so I am completely unfamiliar with baby stuff and whether or not fabric softener is ok to use.  I normally use fabric softener that is fragrance free for sensitive skin, but I don't know if it is ok to use on baby stuff?

So after all the blah blah blah, I guess my question is:  Can I use fabric softener on something for a newborn if it is fragrance free?

thanks!

I have a 5y/o and another one on the way and have done a lot of reading on baby stuff lol.  So far, from what I've found, it really just depends on the babys skin.  It shouldn't be a problem. I didn't even use baby detergent with my daughter and we had no problems with her skin at all.  If it -does- happen to bother the baby, the parents can simply just wash the blanket again in whatever detergent they use once or twice and the problem will be fixed.  Good luck!
