This is my first ever quilt-like project, and I cringe a little bit putting it next to the fabulous quilts shown here! It's a t-shirt quilt, made from my younger sister's outgrown horse shirts that she couldn't bear to get rid of.

I used some batting leftover from another project, and backed it with a brown bedsheet (because brown is a horse color, of course). It's machine sewn, but then I hand-embroidered the details on each square that has a picture on it.

What a great way to honor your sister's favorite Ts.  I love how you embellished the squares with embroidery.  Great quilt!

Lovely quit, I think you did a great job on it. I love the idea of doing this with old T shirts get's them out of the cupboard and in use again.

Wow, thanks for the quick replies! It is definitely a great way to use up old tshirts; I'm even thinking of making one myself for my old high-school event t's. And because it's made with tshirts, it's super soft! Hopefully the next one I make won't be so off-center ...   Grin

It looks great - t-shirts are a bit hard to work with in quilts since they are stretchy, but I think you did a good job for your first one! Have you read the t-shirt quilt thread? It has loads of good tips if you plan to make another. http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=316881.0

I love the embroidery details too. That is really cool and makes it special.

Did you have to do anything special for the t-shirt material? I have way too many t-shirts and need to repurpose them.

The only purpose of the day job is to buy the craft supplies!! Cheesy  Seriously, I LOVE making personalized crafts. I now have a line of hand-crafted fans and notecards using the Zentangle (R) technique. I have also become a Certified Zentangle Teacher and teach other artforms and techniques.

The only special thing I did was put some interfacing on the back of the middle square so I could embroider her name on it. Other than that, I pretty much followed directions from a few different sites and the Generation T recon book. I think the hardest part for me was getting the squares the same size and lining them up properly!

I hadn't seen the t-shirt quilt thread; of course I should have checked here first! If I end up doing another one, I'll be sure to look!
