I saw an amazing pillow on Etsy...but it was priced at $275.  I decided to make one myself as a gift for my 10 yr old diva niece.  I can see why it was so expensive - hand-sewing each of those flowers to the base took forever!  I used almost 2 yards of black satin to make the 100+ flowers (and a bit of pink for the accents).  The flower centers are metallic seed beads.  The pillow body is sewn of a soft black velvet.
The flash makes the flowers look a little flat, but in person they are really ruffly (and less like a bed of oysters)

I love this pillow!  I love making these flowers and I think it would be fun to do a few of these!  Thanks for posting!  I may follow your lead!
