I'm jealous of everyone doing yard work! The weather here hasn't allowed it!  First we got more snow, then it's been raining for the last three days.  Today is the first day of sunshine in about a week and I'm stuck inside studying and writing a term paper!!

My best friend texted me the other day to let me know that her mom is getting rid of a bunch of patterns and fabric and wanted to know if I would be interested in it.  YES!!!  Free fabric is always good.  I feel less pressure to be perfect when it's stuff I didn't buy.  And then it's even better when things turn out fabulous!

Ya know envirocraft if you are really in the mood for doing yardwork I know a few people who would love you to pop on a plane and help out....

The butter is sooooo simple, I wasn't sure I should even count it!

As for the kids....pour some heavy cream into a jar with a lid (we used baby food jars). Give one to each kid, and tell them to SHAKE! 

Then, pour the rest of the heavy cream into the food processor and turn on HIGH SPEED.  Let it rip until it goes past whipped cream, then starts to seperate. After it seperates, you have butter and buttermilk.  Put the butter into a bowl and squish it around with a spoon to get the extra liquid out.  This is the point you add a little bit of salt.  Use the buttermilk to make biscuits to spread the yummy homemade butter on.

Send pic text to friends to impress, and laugh when they compare you to a high tech Amish woman!  LMAO!

It is a Japanese kimono style robe--usually made of cotton...it can be long or short, but normally, I like full length--and yeah, it does have those long sleeves....

I am totally going to make some home made butter!  Next time I go to the store I'm getting my supplies for it.  I'm really excited - I'll have to make some bread - it's been probably a year since I've made bread but with fresh butter ya gotta have fresh bread!!

This thread moves so fast that I cannot keep up.

Yes, My garden beds are all veggies.  I already have garlic, onions and strawberries going.  In the next few days we will be planting lettuce, spinach, arugula, leeks and ground cherries.  Next week will be potatoes, lemon cucumbers and green beans.  The week after will be tomatoes, carrots and squash, and the week after that will be my cayennes.

Today, I am heart broken.  My favorite very large ornamental cherry tree came down in a windstorm.  I have just spent half a day cutting the rest of it down, separating the brush from the wood, and stacking what I could to dry.  Here's what it looked like in the summer.



And here's how it looked in the winter after one of the main branches broke off.

I'm so jealous of all the lovely gardening going on...I would add some sort of container gardening to mine, but I will be moving twice in the next four months, so it really wouldn't be practical at all....sigh...just have to wait til next year....

Sorry about your cherry tree, pinokeeo. I know I was heartbroken when the one in my backyard had to come down; it is very sad when something beautiful is destroyed...

Also going to totally rock the butter making some time soon!  I remember doing that in a jar in kindergarten, and it is really delicious!

A lemon cucumber is the shape of a lemon on the outside, the look of a cucumber on the inside, and has a very mild flavor.  We use them to make sweet pickle spears, and they are delicious.

And as many times as I have made homemade bread, I have yet to try homemade butter.  My Mama used to make it when I was very young.  Now I'm going to give it a go.  I think it would be delicious.  Only I think I'll leave out the salt.
