Details of swap:

This swap is about introducing children to books and characters outside of their comfortable norm. You will be choosing a book your children enjoy and sending it to your partner to introduce them to a book or author that should be completely new to them. Often times our children get caught up in rereading the same books or characters over and over this gives them the chance to learn about a new one. You will also be crafting a medium and two small items, or one large and one small item to go along with the book but does not necessarily have to be part of the book.  Do your children like a special cookie at reading time, then make a batch and send it with the book. Do you like curling up with a blanket, then make one and send it along. Puppets, amigurumi, cocoa mix, the ideas are endless.

For this swap, remember you want to break out of the mold and definitely out of the sterotypes.

I'll do my best to pair people by children's age range. Remember this swap is for children 7 and under

I know I shouldn't even be looking here right now, as i'm about to pop #3.  But I really like this idea.  Would there be a set $ amount on the book, like even a high and a low, like say no less then 10$ no more then 20$?  I sell kids books with Usborne Canada and have a million great books that fit into that category, with totally craftable characters.  But the idea of having a high and a low would mean that it wouldn't end up that person 'A' send a great quality book, and person 'B' send a dollarama book.  See what I'm getting at?
If this was to fly in about 3 months (which is probably a long way off for most), or if there would be more then one round I'm in at some point.

Oh, what a fantastic idea! My little one LOVES books!
How about something like, a book should RETAIL for $xx and be in excellent to new condition. I'm a really good shopper, and I rarely pay more than $5 for a book, but I always find top quality (no dollar store books for my kid - okay, that's not true).
There could be so many crafts for this, too! I'm thinking of all the Eric Carle books, or Richard Scary. Clifford, Critters, the Berenstein bears, Where the Wild Things Are. Have you guys ever read any of the Llama Llama books? They are really cute, my kid will recite pieces of them.

Personally in my several years of swapping as well as organizing I have seen dollar restrictions ruin many a swap the type and and amount spent on a book would be up to the partners. Honestly I have bought many a Berestein Bear or Clifford Book at our Dollar Tree stores. But just like the paperback swap (2008) the book would either have to be new or used in GOOD CONDITION because many of the best childrens books are now out of print. I plan to have at least 3 rounds of this swap if interest peaks.

I'm just thinking if I was to send a book worth 10$ I'd expect a 10$ book in return.  You know what I'm saying?  I guess it could just be a question in the questionaire:  "how much are you willing to spend on the book?"  I know some people think it's excessive to spend even 10$ on one book, and some just can't afford it.  But if the quality is there, then it's worth it imho.  I'd rather have something that's more likely to survive a toddler then not. 
LOL I bet your thinking.. "geeze I hope she doesn't sign up"  I sound like a crazy... I swear I'm not, I've just learned in my year of swaping its better to ask questions then not.  That way we all know for sure whats up

I prefer to think more of if I spend $10 then that child is going to have a book bought for them rather than I'd like to get a $10 book in return. Swapping shouldn't be based in on monetary value rather it should be base in the joy you get crafting for others. If you are going to base it on what you expect to get in return I wouldn't join this swap. I made the mistake of thinking that way in swap a little more than a year ago and I said some things in forum about that and I stepped away for a year and learned it is not what you receive it is what you have to give that matters. If you are worried about your child or yourself being shorted when you receive a book of lesser value than prehaps this is not the swap for you. Please remember we do not judge a book by its cover an never by it's price tag.

5 was just an idea, I would like to accept children through about first grade, afetr that they mostly want to read for themselves.

This sounds great! I'd do it. I don't really care if there's a $ amount or not; I'm happy to follow dollar guidelines, but I think it'd be fine without them too.
