I would love this.  I would think that you would try to stick to what your partner has said they liked when picking out a book as opposed to how much the book costs.  If  each person lists 5-10 characters/authors that their child likes everything should work out.

Why do you restrict it to the USA?
I love books (in fact the house is full of them) and I have 2 kids of 4 and 6 who get stories read to them every night. I would have loved to join you....

I will be opening round 2 to international but I always try to test new swaps domestically first allows me to work the kinks out without having to worry about international shipping issues.

I'm interested in this too but waiting to see a few more comments to see how things flush out. I have 4 kids ages 5 mos, 5 yrs, 8 yrs and 11 yrs. They all love to be read to! We read stories every night and they all listen intently, no matter what age it's intended for. My 11 yr old still loves listening to Winnie the Pooh even though he's reading adventure stuff on his own.

If I joined I'd join based on reading to all my kids, not just one age. I'd give my partner a few general themes we enjoy, but I wouldn't expect my partner to search for a book based on a certain age-but rather something that could be enjoyed by all.

I also think being introduced to new books is soooo valuable to kids AND adults. I thought I was pretty well read in the children's book genre but when we started homeschooling 5 yrs ago I couldn't believe all the wonderful literature out there that I had never heard of. Many were older books, found at thrift stores or used sources for maybe a $1. These certainly may not have any specific monetary "value" but they are WONDERFUL stories and I'd love to share them.

As far as the crafted item(s), I guess I'd request something to be used by all such as a pillow, blanket, book bag, etc.
 
So I guess I'm just throwing these thoughts out there to see if others agree/disagree or if this would work for us.

This one sounds really fun. Methinks this might be my next swap. My 2.5 year old twins love books and their bedtime stories are their favorite part of the day.

Im a Montessori teacher (3-5yr olds) and would love to do this swap..... would it be alright to do it bases on my class? ... my own kids are now 11 and 14, and I think they would laugh if i sat them down and read Barnyard Dance by Sandra Boyton to them...........but I would love to get a new book and say some puppets or a felt/interactive board to use with the kids in my class......

yep, have been for about 9 years now..............ce rtified from birth through upper elememtary.......i love it.....there isnt a better start in life to give a child than a Montessori education.....and yeah, we seem to be drawn towards the same swaps.... what can we say ....great minds think alike

Thats awsome, Im homeschooling my ds (for now, he is only 2.5), and I set up a montessori area for him in my sewing room, he loves it!  Here the montessori school isnt very good so Im having to do it on my own.   




I signed up for the swap too - Levi loves books, I actually donated most of his toys b/c he never plays with them. he just wants to read all day which is fine with me!
