this post was entirely inspired by this http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=37262566&ref=cat3_list_2
and all information was gotten http://www.reciprocalnet.org/edumodules/commonmolecules/list.html

Back story: Every year for Christmas, I like to make my best friends the same thing only different versions. This was our first year in college and all three of them went on to be Science majors while I traveled on to be an Art major. After seeing moleculemuse's necklaces, I knew these molecule necklaces were what they needed. Sadly, I didn't have $85 to spend on each necklace. I thought "Hey, I'm a crafty gal! Lets see if I can't create knock-offs!" I chose my molecules and made sure they all related to Christmas then headed to Michaels for a journey into jewelry making. Let the photos commence!

Group Shot. All pretty much packaged.

Now for each individual molecule.

Cinnamon:

the individual necklace.

entire packaging. Box set up to look like a professional jewelry store package. a paper to tell what it is, and a scented To:/From: tag that smells of cinnamon.

Peppermint:

the individual necklace.

entire packaging. this tag that smells like peppermint.

and finally, Vanillin:

the individual necklace.

entire packaging. this tag that smells like, you guessed it, vanilla.

To finish off this post, a picture of all the boxes.
They are candy boxes stamped with holiday stamps painted in the respective colors I chose for the molecule.

Happy Holidays!
after i gift these, I'll try to get pictures of the recipients.

Holy cow those are great! I saw those etsy ones too but couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a necklace. How'd you make them keep their shape?

thanks guys!

and @thekster: i used 26gauge wire for them to keep their shape and just to make sure nothing would move, i put a bit of super glue at all the joints.

this is really neat my sis would love it! I'm curious did you just use wire to form the shapes or do the beads do it on their own?
My sis is getting a mug with a chocolate molecule on it and that would be a great side gift.
any tips?

This is so awesome!  I'm a chem major myself and have looked at those necklaces before, but I never thought to try and make them myself!  Great job!
