I decided to make everyone stockings this year since stocking stuffers were more within my budget than big ticket items.  I made six total, two of each color combination, and I'm really happy with how they turned out.

Thank you Smiley

They really didn't take long at all.  I made them all working off and on over two weekends.
Each stocking takes 17 hexagons and I did each stocking assembly line - all the middles, all the second rows, etc.  I did the join as you go method, too, which is SO much easier than having to sew them all together at the end, and there are way less ends to weave in.

Those are gorgeous!  They are definitely one of my favorite things ever here on Craftster.  (the only reason I'm not wisting them is because we use heirloom stockings passed down in the family and will never ever use anything else).

I used the hexagon, knotting the ends of each new color and weaving them in, and the joining as you go instructions from this page:  http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/hexagon-howto.html

As for how to put it together, I just looked at a picture of something similar on Flickr where they had used a different color to sew their hexagons together, making it easier for me to see where I had to seam.  Once they were all together I single crocheted around the top, starting at the left-hand peak.  I chained 15 for the loop and single crocheted in each chain.
