We are looking at both Charleston and San Jose, CA for our next duty station. What do you guy think of Charleston, is it artsy, are there places to get craft supplies, any cool craft shows, etc?

I know this is old. Charleston is a crafty atmosphere place with a few crafty/artsy areas. There is a wide appreciation of crafting and arts. On the other hand, the materials for crafting are a bit hard to track down. Other crafters are hard to find/interact with...cause it hasn't been organized at all. I haven't found many venues here to sell crafty goods, other than renting a table at the Market downtown on Thursday nights. It's wide open, though, and just needs someone with vision to do it!

There may be lots I don't yet know about. I've been here since Spring 2009.
