I made a kid friendly yule log for my sons preschool party - it came out reasonably well with very little fuss.  For the logs I made Libby pumpkin rolls (recipe here:  http://www.verybestbaking.com/recipes/detail.aspx?ID=32372 ) which are pretty foolproof, even for this lousy baker.   The frosting is canned (  ;-O  shocking I know).  The hedgehogs are made from Bakerella cake pop dough (  http://www.bakerella.com/red-velvet-cake-balls/ ) and messily decorated.   The mushrooms are also Bakerella cake pop dough with pretzel rod stems.   The kids loved the animals and the mushrooms and the pumpkin rolls is always a big hit (its really tasty).

my son, the perfectionist, told me he hated the stems, because they looked like pretzels instead of real mushroom stems.  (he's four).

Wow, that's so adorable. I could imagine loving to eat that when I was a kid XD Were there fights over who got to eat the hedgehogs? Smiley
