I'm posting in this thread because what I have made here is more art than craft.

So I made this shawl pin for my partner in the Secret Santa Wish Swap.  This is the first time I've ever tried making something like this.  I don't know why, but she never posted a picture, so I thought I post it here.

It is rough cut with a scroll saw, hand carved, hand sanded and hand burnished.  It has no finish on it at all.  It is zebrawood, so I tried to capture the stripes in the wood.  There is also no paint or dye on it.

I give you, my first ever shawl pin.

It measures 5 1/2 inches from end to end.  And now that I know I can make it, I intend to make others with different designs.

I love how it wobbles back and forth, and the stripes of the wood. I wear shawls around the house and at work constantly, and am always having to pull them back up, a shawl pin is an awesome idea! wisted

Thank you all for your lovely comments.  I am working on some new designs, so I will be posting more of these.  And who knows, some of them just might end up in swap packages.  Wink

At this time I will probably say no.  I have trouble keeping up as it is.  I already have a small business that I work at, and it keeps me busy.

If you are interested in a personal swap or purchase, PM me.

this is just beautiful. i have no use for a shawl pin, but this would make a great wall hanging. i just love the stripes!

i love personal swaps. i'm looking to swap my art or paper crafts for some re-usable fabric snack bags, fabric sandwich wraps, fabric paper towels, glass pendants, ephemera, or art books.

Thanks.  That might be an interesting concept.  It's not very big.
