Roman Blinds! (first thread, plz be gentle)

Hello! Long time lurker, first time poster 

I've been wanting to change the lounge room curtains since we moved in over a year ago. They were full length and generally not-so-hot. Not to mention the accompanying lace curtain that offered absolutely NO night-time privacy.

So - my first homewares project was born - calico Roman Blinds working out to around $50.



They are a bit wonky (pretty much everything I make is!), so I might spray them with water and hope they dry a bit flatter. Then again, for a first go and not having even examined a roman blind before - I'm just happy they are functional!

Are these the type of blinds that open from the top? Didn't see a pic of them partially opened. Was it a difficult project? Would like to do that under my vertical blinds for the evening when I would like to keep the blinds open or on sunny days to block a little sun. The change in the room looks great.

Thankyou for the nice comments - I'm pretty happy with them myself, not perfect but thats part of the fun of DIY (especially when you are learning, like me!)

CraftyDeJa, These blinds fold up on themselves from the bottom, I will update with an open pic soon (my camera battery died and I need to go buy more). It wasnt difficult really - just sew hems up the sides, a casing at the top and a casing at the bottom plus equally spaced casings through the middle, insert wooden dowel into the casings and you're done. You run some nylon cord at the back.

You did a great job on them! A few years ago with the help of a friend I made roman blinds for my floor to ceiling windows. It was quite a job so I can truely appreciate the work you did. They look wonderful. A definite improvement!

And love the wall color too!

Great work on the blinds! They look far more sophisticated than the original window treatment, and probably make the room look a lot more open, I'm betting.
