for people selling yarn items (knitted or crocheted or what have you):

do you find there is a difference in people wanting to buy your items if you use home-made yarn instead of store-bought? i'm not saying you have to make your own yarn persay, but maybe purchase it from someone who specializes in making their own yarn. (i'm sorry if this is confusing)

I don't think so. Home made yarn is beautifull, but it doesn't even always look better in the finished product than if it were made from manufactured yarn. Even cheap acrylic can have a fabulous effect if you use it in a clever design!
In my opinion most buyers look for a cool/pretty looking finished product and rarely have preferences for what you made it from, unless they have an allergy for certain products, but that's a different discussion.
I'm particularly proud of my reused yarn products and use being green to profile my shop but I wonder if it ever made a difference to any customer. On the other hand nobody ever complained about getting a product made of 'old' yarn Smiley
