I made my own top hat! It was stitched together from freestanding lace, and then I decorated it.



I added the ribbon, feathers, and found the jem as a pendant. I glued a small hair clip to the bottom, and voila! A tiny awesome top hat.



Instant steampunk awesomeness.

this is so made of awesome. great job!! the construction is beautiful.

when you say freestanding lace - is it tough? or have you added stiffner to it or something to make it tougher?

It's done by machine embroidery. It's lace that stitches out on the machine on stabilizer that dissolves in water. Once you dissolve the stabilizer, the lace stays firm on its own! It's pretty nifty
