So I found this awesome tartan/plaid fabric in a charity (thrift) shop for a bargain. I used a tutorial for a lolita style dress, which I'm pretty sure was by the ever awesome craftster Roethke, but I can't seem to find it anymore to provide the link. But big love to Roethke for providing tutes for loads of stuff.
These pictures were taken at the Bizarre Ball. Bizarre is a magaznie which celebrates everything alternative, and the Bizarre Ball enjoyed it's second annual hoodown last October. Myself and my best friend has a blast! Everything I was wearing (bar my shoes, but even they were from an internet company which still employs skilled shoemakers) was handmade.
Taken in the bathroom of the venue:

Better view of smoe hair accessories and gloves:

With lead singer of Electic Eel shock, who played that night and rocked!

With Nina Kate, a fetish model who I really admire because as well as being a damn hot model, she runs her own latex clothing/accessory company, and she's the one making the produce. bad ass! (It's Jane Doe clothing, for any who are interested).

And the next week I got to wear the same dress to my graduation.
(This is me with my mommy).

Very pretty!  Smiley did it take you long to make? Also, on a completely unrelated topic, did you get me for Kris Kindle?! My sister (who went to drop in/collect my pressies on the day) was very vague and said it was 'a really lovely girl with piercings'...

Hey it;s you! Bad-ass. No, I didn't get you, so the only other option must have been Helen? I'll text her in a minute and let you know....
The dress didn't take long to make. You could do it all it one sitting really, but I'm lazy and did it in 2 or 3. The longest bit for me was cutting out the pattern pieces, but I was working with really crap scissors so it wouldn't take me as long next time. Near the end there's a bit of trying it on, pinning it, taking it off, sewing it, trying it on, repeat, so I ended up sewing in my underwear for a little while!
The fabric was meant for covering a couch I think, but the inside is lovely and soft.

I've always wanted to use uplholestry fabric, but am too afraid of how heavy it would be to wear! But I guess there are different types that would be suitable for dresses. You look AMAZING! Smiley -x-

Cheers! Yeah, I know what you mean - sometimes in fabric shops I see reduced upholstery fabric which I kinda like, but it's way heavy and stiff. I think this stuff was cotton, maybe meant for covering armchairs? Either way, it was lovely and soft on the inside and draped quite nicely. I have in the past also used curtain fabric to make dresses and skirts (they're on the boards here somewhere) but again, the curtain fabric I was using wasn't too heavy. I guess if you wanted to make something like an epic cape or somethinglike that, heavy fabric might be preferred?

What an amazing dress. I was looking into making some clothes from upholestry fabric, but have not got the nerves to do it yet.
