This is my first post...with something I actually made!  Grin I'm a bit of a lurker, so I haven't made 10 post yet. Until then, forgive the lackage of actual pictures.

I had a couple of 1.75 liter Jack Daniel bottles laying around and we needed extra lighting in our living room, so I making lamps!

There are most of the supplies I used. The bottle, lampshade, and drill. The bits I used I bought at Sears; they're a glass and tile set with tungsten carbide tips. It took about 15-20 minutes to drill through the glass.

The glass beads I got from good ol' Hobby Lobby (oh, and the lamp kit, which is hot-glued on there. teehee). I used about 3 bags to fill it up; 1.5 black, 1.5 clear.

I have yet to make the twin for the other side, so maybe I'll get some step by step pics with that one!

So tell me what you think or ask any questions!!! ^_^

Thanks! There's been delay on the twin...I'm hoping by now Hobby Lobby has a second lamp kit that's the same. *crosses fingers* I want to make lamps from fam/friends' favorite drinks...like my sis loves X-Rated, which will look soooo cute!

Was it hard to drill through the glass?  Did you break any bottles?

I'm asking because I made a lamp kinda similar to this out of an heirloom jar my grandmother (and her mother) used to store their sugar in.  It's too precious for me to keep in the kitchen where everyone will use it, so I made it a lamp and put it in my bedroom, but I left the cord from the lamp kit hanging down the back of the lamp rather than drilling through the jar.  Lately it's been driving me nuts because it doesn't look finished but I am terrified of breaking the jar so...I'm not sure what to do.  So, any advice would be much appreciated, as I love how your lamps look!

How thick is the glass? I'm no expert yet, but I'd be more apprehensive if it was thin glass. I'd suggest getting something in similar thickness and type of glass to test it out first. Don't put too much pressure on it either.

This being my first try, I'm very glad it didn't break it. I only have the 2 jack bottles and that's a lot of Jack to go through. The bottle was a lil thick...it felt like it took a long time but Dh said it might've been 15 minutes. The annoying thing was that you can see when the tip of the bit gets through but you still have to keep going for the cord to fit ALL the way through haha.

Oh, watch out for your area and make sure you rinse out the bottle. The extremely tiny glass shards fall around and in the bottle and you don't want them as slinters!

That is genius!  Cheesy I would never have thought of that, my best friend is a huge JD fan and he would love that! If you have time and you dont mind I would really love a tute please?  Kiss I think the glass beads really set it off. Have you thought of using brown ones to make it look realistic?  Wink

This is SO creative! My DH loves this! I am not a big drinker but the bottles are cool for use after they are emptied Smiley I have a Midori bottle in the freezer that would look great with some green glass beads  made into a lamp. Thanks so much for sharing your creativity!

I'm curious about the wiring part... you mentioned a kit? I have a great old vintage lamp I fear has a short in the wiring & would love to restore it.
